professional photographer, worked in Orange, New South Wales, for some time before 1865 when he moved to Brisbane Street, Dubbo. This proved a disaster, as Thomson himself confessed: 'Since I left Orange I have had but little to do in my business as a photographer which has daily been becoming worse’. Declared bankrupt, his property was sequestered on 19 October 1868. His assets consisted of 'one portrait camera and stand, one head rest’ and two chemical baths (valued at £15), sundry chemicals (£2) and some clothing (£2), his total assets being proved at £28, his debts at £158.
