Mawby began her career as a painter in Sydney in the 1960s, then travelled extensively. She settled in New Mexico and spent ten years in the Intensive Study Program at the C. G. Jung Institute of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She continued her art practice in painting, drawing and exhibiting until her death in 2021.
