Anthony Bond joined the Gallery in 1984 as curator of contemporary art. In January 1995 he was appointed to the executive management team. Mr Bond is responsible for curatorial services. He currently oversees the Gallery’s curatorial departments: conservation, registration, public programs, research library and archive, photography studio/digitisation and copyright.


He is also the Gallery’s head curator, Western art, with special responsibility for 20th-century and contemporary international collections. He was formerly director of Wollongong City Gallery and assistant director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.


Mr Bond’s curatorial specialisation is in 20th-century and contemporary international art. His recent major projects include curating Aperiatur Terra, on the work of Anselm Kiefer in conjunction with White Cube in London (2007); the Self portrait exhibition in conjunction with the London Portrait Gallery (2006); Trace, the inaugural Liverpool Biennial in England (1999); and Body, an exhibition tracing aspects of realism in art from the mid 19th century (1997).
