Printmaker, Bevan Hayward (also known as Pooaraar) was born in Gnowangerup, Western Australia in 1939. In 1987 he completed a two year “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Course” at Cairns TAFE. In 1988 he commenced an Associate Diploma in Printmaking at the School of Art, Canberra which he transferred to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Printmaking at the same school in 1989. Hayward’s prints depict Aboriginal life and bush spirits. He has shown in a number of national and international exhibitions including “Decorative Arts 1985-1988” at the Drill Hall Gallery, ACT in 1988 and the “18th International Biennial of Graphic Art in Contemporary Trends” in Yugoslavia in 1989. His prints are in the permanent collections of the Queensland Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Australia and the Heytesbury Holding Collection in WA.
