Sparks was active in watercolour and drawing. He documented the life of Frank Medworth (ADB, 2000) and was active as a collector and visual arts researcher in his later years. In the 1980s, the department of Technical Education employed Cameron Sparks to document the National Art School Collection and create catalogue cards.
