professional photographer, was probably the son of James Baker since he seems to have inherited the latter’s Sydney business and was unknown as a photographer until James ceased operations. Camfield had his own studio, Baker’s School of Photography, at 128 William Street from late 1864 to 1865 where he provided carte-de-visite portraits and taught photography. The Baker in partnership with William George at Bathurst in 1866 was undoubtedly Camfield, who is subsequently recorded as a solitary travelling photographer in rural NSW: at Young and Murrumburrah in 1869, at Gulgong in 1872-73 and at Forbes in 1883-84.
