professional photographer, worked for A. Hall at Beechworth, Victoria until June 1868 then set up his own 'First Class Glass Operating Room’ in Conness Street, Chiltern. During the first half of 1873 he travelled throughout New South Wales taking photographs. He returned to Chiltern but later moved to New South Wales, showing photographs at the 1879 Sydney International Exhibition as a resident in the colony. At the end of the year he paid a short visit to Chiltern, then worked in various New South Wales country towns, including Forbes in 1884-85 and Brewarrina in 1900. A carte-de-visite from Albury has also been recorded. Shephard may have printed some of his photographs onto varnished tin. Engravings after his photographs were published in the Illustrated Sydney News .
