Charles Allen Brown was the pre-eminent manufacturing jeweller active in Brisbane during the last Quarter of the nineteenth century. An apprentice of Christian Ludwig Qwist, Brown's boutique produced important jewels and testimonials for Queensland's discerning clientele.

Presented to Sir Samuel Walter Griffith, Premier of Queensland, at the turning of the sod of the Maryborough to Gayndah railway. 28oz, stamped “C A BROWN” “BRISBANE” in 10 different places on the work.

Half Emu egg mounted on engraved, frosted and chased silver stand in the form of a native fern, and surmounted with silver figure of an emu amongst native foliage. Turned and stained wooden base with engraved silver plaque. Presented to Past Master of the Hiram Lodge, Edwin Young, in April 1874 for his distinguished service.
