professional photographer, was working in Alma Street, Rockhampton, Queensland, at the beginning of 1870. When John Ness died at the end of 1870, Tonkin purchased his negatives and moved into Ness’s East Street studio but did not last long. No photographic activities are recorded beyond that year. One A.J.C. Tonkin was taking photographs on St Mary’s, Scilly Isles, in 1875.
