Charlotte Fanning was a painter in oils, china painter, wood caver and an exponent of the marquetry. She was a student at Perth Technical School who probably also studied china painting with the Misses Creeth. Regarding a 1911 West Australian Society of Arts Exhibition, the reviewer for the Western Mail wrote: “Miss Lottie Fanning has the painted china section entirely to herself, and her work is a credit to the State. As well as to the artist hand responsible for the work of designing and painting. A more pleasing dessert service than that represented by three pieces could hardly be desired. The plate beautified by pink carnations is a picture in itself and the salad bowls, cups and saucers, plates and plaques are hardly less successful. The work is highly finished in every particular.” In this exhibition she also exhibited a marquetry chair and a carved walnut chair that were also praised. She lived at 5 Bulwer Street, Highgate Hill when she was listed under 'Teachers of Painting & Artists’ in Wise’s Western Australian Post Office Directory 1914 and 1924. Her further career is not known.
