The work depicts Rivers and his wife Selina being served tea by a maid/waitress at a small table and chairs beneath a large jacaranda tree in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens adjacent to the Brisbane Technical College (now Queensland University of Technology) where Rivers was an art master.
