Born in 1952, Daniel Pata is a Sydney based landscape artist. He studied art under Tom Thompson at the Julian Ashton Art School, and later attended the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales where he graduated with a post-graduate diploma. Further study at that institution saw him gain a Master of Fine Art degree. In 1987 he was awarded an Artist-in-Residency at the Cite International des Arts in Paris and has since maintained strong links with France.

Pata has been active as an artist since the early 1980s. He is a plein air landscape painter and works in several media including: pastel, watercolour and paint. Common subjects are France, the Blue Mountains, the New South Wales Coast and the arid areas of the Australian interior. He has lectured in several art schools including the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW, the National Art School, and the Sydney Gallery School. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute (AWI) and Vice President of the AWI since 2006.
