professional photographer, was working at 251 George Street, Sydney, in 1857. These premises seem to have been next door to, or the same as, those of M. Gow, listed as manager of the Australian Photographic Gallery at 253 George Street the following year. 'M.’ may simply have been a misprint for 'Messrs’, i.e. David and William Gow , neither of whom was otherwise listed as a photographer that year. The following year all the Gows, except James , had disappeared from the scene.
