Sculptor, Denese Oates, was born in Orange, NSW, in 1955. In 2008 she was living and working in Sydney. Oates studied a Diploma of Art Education at the Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education in Sydney between 1974 and 1977.
Oates uses copper wire to create striking, asymmetrical sculptures and wall works that reflect her concern for botanical and biological vascular systems.
Since 1976 Oates has exhibited in over fifty group exhibitions and twenty solo exhibitions. Her work is represented in many collections, including Parliament House, the University of Sydney Union, New England Regional Art Museum, the Alexander Mackie Collection, Wollongong City Art Gallery, Burnie Regional Art Gallery, Artbank, Rockhampton Art Gallery, Christchurch City Collection in New Zealand, Orange Regional Gallery, the University of New South Wales and Eden Gardens Art Gallery.
