Don has a reputation for expertise in the technical aspect of glaze formulas. Besides beautifully thrown pieces he made sculptural ceramics. One piece titled 'Yellow Cake’ – refers to uranium (early 1980?): a yellow 'birthday cake’, dark brown glossy rockets as dirty oily candles, the cake is glossy bright yellow from memory.
Don Wordsworth studied and experimented with glazes and became highly proficient, producing vibrant colors and deep natural tones.

Don began teaching ceramics at Melbourne Teachers’ College in the early 1970s and remained there until his early retirement.

In 2004, when he was featured in Skepsi Gallery’s Celebrating the Master, he was still working with clay from his own studio. (CC BY NC SA Judith Pearce.)
