watercolourist, made an interior view of the Australian Library and Literary Institution, Bent Street, Sydney in 1868 (Mitchell Library, State Library of New South Wales, Sydney, NSW). The artist was doubtless related to D.R. Hawley, the librarian in 1865-69, and the watercolour possibly a commission. Together with three silver library seals, the names and dates of the first four librarians are inscribed on the mount. The 'E. Hawley’ who had work included in a collection of watercolours by pupils of the Sydney School of Design at the 1873 exhibition of the Agricultural Society of New South Wales may be the same artist.
