painter, is known only for two detailed oil on board views of the gold-mining settlement Simmons Reef, Mount Blackwood, 57 Miles from Melbourne, Victoria . Although showing the settlement as it appeared in 1858, both seem to have been painted much later. That in the National Library is attributed to Elizabeth Shepherd, but a virtual replica in the Dixson Library (State Library of New South Wales) is signed Elizabeth Woodmansey and dated 1882 – presumably the artist’s married name and the date when both views were painted. According to the National Library accession card, Elizabeth Shepherd came to Victoria in September 1855 and lived there until February 1884.
