Elizabeth Skottowe, illustrator and writer, was born in Adelaide. She studied at the South Australian School of Art, Adelaide and worked as an illustrator in the 1930s. She designed a coloured poster for London's Southern Railway and also wrote children's books.

Apart from a visit to Sydney in 1937, she lived in England from 1935. A coloured poster she designed for London’s Southern Railway is in the James Hardie Childhood collection (now Mitchell Library, State Library of New South Wales, Sydney, NSW), which also holds a Chinese scene. Her children’s books were published in England from 1952.
