This exhibition continues the series Under Twelves (2005) with a new series of portraits following the same group of boys seven years later, documenting their transformation into young men. This collection of black and white photographs affirms the dignity of male beauty.
An artwork from Dreyfus’ series Transman was exhibited in the major survey exhibition Cheveux Cheris – Frivolites et Trophee in Paris. The exhibition looked at the way human hair has been conceptualised and depicted across cultures, history and disciplines.
An exhibition of ink-jet prints on paper which reflect upon the way language shifts through space and transcends meaning. Depicted in the works are a number of three-dimensional soft sculptures, which were hand stitched and layered through digital photographic techniques. The muted tones of the coloured alphabet letters reflect upon the early childhood development of language.
Scumbag was an installation of hand-stitched felt letters and a series of large format colour photographs, which reflect upon childhood perceptions of family trauma. Central to this work is language and the power of words to evoke strong emotions.
Under Twelves depicts the beauty of male youths as they hover on the cusp of childhood, traversing both the feminine and masculine worlds. Dreyfus’ photographs of her son and his football team invite us to contemplate a subject matter that elicits both pleasure and discomfort.
Age and Consent was a major solo exhibition of black and white photographs of ageing women’s bodies. It was an official event of the United Nations International Year of Older Persons and sponsored by The Body Shop and the NSW Department of Ageing and Disabilities.
Transman is a document of a rarely seen subject – the female to male transgender. Dreyfus collaborated with her subject to photograph his gender transition from female to male in a compelling and extraordinarily intimate way.
The Body Pregnant is an exhibition and monograph (Penguin, 1993)that depicts women in the final stages of pregnancy and immediately afterwards with their babies. They are large format black and white photographs.
Pregnancy Series is study of women in the latter stages of their pregnancies, showing the explosiveness of the pregnant woman’s body – the curves, the weight and the distortions. It addresses the female body as the site for deeply held fears regarding power and sexuality.
