Painter, was born in Ireland, daughter of John Edwin and Rachael Gameau, settlers in South Australia. She was probably the Miss Gameau who was awarded second prize in the category of the 'most meritorious picture by a young lady’ at the 1864 exhibition of the South Australian Society of Arts, her subject being a group of flowers. In 1866 she exhibited a painting of geraniums 'which appears to us to be very pretty, though the grouping is not judicious’, stated a local reviewer. It won no prize. (A prize-winner in the student section that year, however, was Ellen Magdalene Lewis, q.v., soon to become her sister-in-law and namesake.) Ellen Gameau married Richard Moore Lewis in North Adelaide on 19 December 1866; they had four children. She died at Colton on 18 August 1927.
