sketcher, was a daughter of the Tasmanian sketcher and merchant William Knight . Later she married Henry Thomas Maning. Her sketchbook, begun before her marriage, dates from New Year’s Day 1864 (Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts, State Library of Tasmania. Hobart). It is full of pencil studies of British views ( Ascombe Bridge, Devonshire ), castles, trees and houses – clearly student copies – and a few local views including Moreton, Glenorchy – Derwent , The Old Ferry House New Norfolk (1865) and Fenton Forest – New Norfolk , all apparently drawn from nature. There is also a pencil drawing of Risdon Ferry by Rose Skinner, indistinguishable in style and quality from Knight’s. Mrs Maning died in Hobart on 8 April 1925, aged 74.
