painter and art teacher. After graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Science, Architecture in 1976, Giacco studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and the Hochschule Fur Angewandte Kunst in Vienna, as well as private study with Brian Dunlo
As a portraitist, he is notable for the influence of genre painting which pervades his work.
Giacco won the Archibald Prize in 1994, the Mosman Art Prize in 1996 and the Hills Grammar Art Prize in 2000. He has been a finalist in the Blake Prize and Doug Moran Portrait Prize, among others, and was also honoured with the Italo-Australian Achievement Award in 1994.
