cartoonist, actor and scriptwriter, brother of actor and artist Max Cullen, began as an ACP press artist on the Telegraph for two years; he also contributed to Sydney’s A.M. as a freelance. Then he moved into TV. He was art director at ATN (channel 7) for two years, at Crawford Productions as a set designer for three years, then a documentary writer and director including a TV series on dental health. He wrote the script for the 1982 film The Man from Snowy River . For a time he also worked as a press artist on the Sydney Morning Herald . Cullen also worked on Kings Cross Whisper during the 1960s.

A joke cartoon signed 'Cullen’, published in the Bulletin on 16 October 1953 (original ML Px*D459/114), shows a newspaper seller of the 'Daily Whirl’ newspaper with a poster advertising ’78 pages of comics, features and fiction’ and a 'special 2 page news supplement’ (included S.H. Ervin b/w exhibition 1999).
