Barnett was an English-born interior designer arriving in Australia in the late 1960s, initially working for furnishing firms and department stores. He established his own practice in the late 1980s as Garth Barnett Designers. The Garth Barnett Prize for Excellence in Design was established in his memory at the University of Technology, Sydney.
