Gary Donnelly, Gunditjmara/Gunai painter, lives in Melbourne, Victoria. Donnelly has been making art since 1992, but his artistic career gained momentum when he undertook a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts, which he completed in 2005. During his undergraduate years Donnelly participated in a number of exhibitions, including “Nothink 2000!” (2000) and “Con-Sent-Trick Sir-Kills” (2003), both at the Linden Centre of Contemporary Art.
In 2003 Donnelly was recognised as the Victorian College of the Arts’ outstanding painting student, receiving the Maude Glover Fleay Award. Donnelly’s paintings are meditations on the nature of Aboriginal identity and experience. His commissions since graduating include the painting of a 50th anniversary edition B & D Roll-A-Door, which was donated to Cure Cancer Australia and exhibited at the National Museum of Australia in 2006.
