Wood engraver, painter, founding member of the Royal Art Society of NSW, and founder of Australian Art, the first local magazine devoted to art. George Collingridge arrived in Australia in 1879 as an engraver for newspapers and went on to more success as a painter of local scenes with works such as 'Mangrove Creek, Hawkesbury River' winning the praise of art critics.
