George was Born in Galway, Ireland, and emigrated to Australia. He was a professional photographer and studio manager, and became a business partner of Johnstone , O’Shannessy & Co. at Melbourne in September 1869. He was listed as manager of the business in 1870-72. George ran the company until his death in 1897, after which his son-in-law, Rupert Wilks, took over the company. The company was put into liquidation in 1905.
George’s private residence was at St Kilda. He married Emily O’Shannessy in 1871 and they had 2 daughters – Ethel Maud and Muriel.
