A professional photographer and noted baritone singer, Kendall worked in rural Victoria and based with permanent studio in Echuca from circa 1867-1890 and latterly at Cobram from the 1890s combining roles at hotel keeper and photographer. He ran an art union using his own views and in 1872 published an album of prints and portraits entitled 'Echuca Illustrated'. In 1873 he acquired Charles Bayliss's negatives of Echuca.
