portraitist, was living in Hobart Town, Van Diemen’s Land, in the 1840s. On 2 July 1847 the Colonial Times announced the publication of a wood-engraving of 'our old and well-known townsman, an important public officer too, Mr. Daniel Murphy, “the tapper” [the town bailiff]’, stating that it had been engraved by Mrs Rogers of Brisbane Street after a drawing by George Rhubens. The Colonial Times described the portrait as 'perfectly characteristic, but we think the drawing of the face too much exaggerated; but the attitude, the hat, and the umbrella, are excellent’. The print has not been located and nothing further is known of Rhubens.
