Wilfred Grewar was known as one of the Grewar Brother photographers, from the family who were listed in 1899 to 1901 directories as residing at Willunga, in South Australia. The brothers were the sons of Rev. Archibald Grewar, who was a Methodist minister. Another brother, believed to be B. J. Grewar, is credited with producing a cabinet portrait, as it bears his name in print. However, two B. J. Grewars were listed in directories at the time, one was a Reverend, recorded to have resided at Frances during 1914, whilst the other was a teacher based at Gulnare, during 1915.

The photographing brothers inscribed their mounts in letterpress with ‘Grewar Bros., Saddleworth’, placing them in Saddleworth with Rev. A. Grewar who resided there from 1902 to 1904, and later at Orroroo from 1905. Several cabinet photographs and a whole-plate photograph are known to carry the brothers’ inscription, which depict scenes set at and near Saddleworth in 1901 and c.1905. Notably, one of the cabinet photographs was inscribed, ‘Grewar and Stilling’, indicating a connection between the brothers and photographer Henry Stilling (q.v.).

Ray Hannaford (1894-1969), a Saddleworth resident and local identity of the time, claimed that one of the Grewar brothers died at Port Wakefield some time during the early twentieth century, as a result of a boating accident. However, it is not clear which brother it was.
