The Society of Designers for Industry (SDI) was organised in 1948 and was especially significant for Melbourne Technical College-trained designers. The founder members were Fred Ward, R. Haughton James, Max Forbes (MTC), W.W. Falconer Green, I. McL. (Max) Hutchinson (MTC), Frances Burke (MTC), Charles Furey, Scorgie Anderson, Grant Featherston and Selwyn Coffey (MTC).
