professional photographer, worked at Batchelder & O’Neill 's Melbourne studios in 1864-65, then moved to Adelaide. From 1865 he worked for the Adelaide Photographic Company in Neale’s Buildings, King William Street, under Fraser S. Crawford . In 1868 Davis succeeded Crawford as manager of the company’s Adelaide studios. He was in charge when the studio was burnt out early in 1871 and 'all the valuable instruments and a large stock of negatives were destroyed. They were uninsured.’ Nevertheless, the firm continued with Davis as manager until 1878. Then his wife or widow, Mary Jane Davis , succeeded him.
