Howard Hamilton Taylor b. 29 August 1918

Painter, sculptor and teacher, his work was presented in two retrospectives, in 1985 at the AGWA, and from 2003-06 at ten-venues organised by the MCA and AGWA. He received the Emeritus Award from the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council in 1986; Member Order of Australia, 1989; Hon. Doctor of Letters, UWA, 1993; Hon. Doctor of Technology, Curtin University, 1997; and 'State Treasure' Western Australia 1999.

    Winner. At Perth Mod. Taylor was an outstanding student what would then have been called an all-rounder. He excelled in athetics, was captain of the cricket team and drew caricatures for the school magazine 'The Phenix’.

    In 1998 the Western Australian Government inaugurated a program to recognize WA artists in all media. Ten artists, poets and dancers were awarded diamond pins, a catalogue was published to highlight their achievements. At the time they were known as 'State Living Treasures’.
