Illustrator and etcher who exhibited two drypoints of Flooded Gums and Spencer’s Brook with the West Australian Society of Arts in 1949 and two more, Melville Water and The Pool in 1952. In 1956 Smeed exhibited three drypoint etchings: Black Swans; Christ Church, Claremont and Mill Point Jetty. He exhibited one pen drawing and five drypoint etchings in the Festival of Perth exhibition in 1956.

Smeed illustrated Farming Personalities of Western Australia 1961 with etchings of Katrine and Culham Churches and of the Cobb & Co Coach House at Spencers Brook and an Old Thatched Cottage at West Toodyay. A drypoint of Culham Church is in the J. S. Battye Library of West Australian History.
