engraver, cut a wood-engraving of an aerial carriage – an early experimental flying machine – reproduced in the Launceston Examiner on 19 August 1843. No artist of this name is known in Tasmania. One 'G.’ Maxted, proclaiming himself an engraver on wood, wood letter-cutter and printing-ink manufacturer, was working in Kent Street South, near Druitt Street, Sydney, in September 1844.
