Teacher and amateur artist who was the third of the fourteen children of James and Elizabeth n_e Eggleston. He taught in Ballarat until he retired in 1905. He founded a School of Design at the Mechanics Institute in Ballarat and taught there until 1885. He was a painter in oils and watercolours, and he also worked with pastels and was a talented etcher. He was a founding member of the Ballarat Art Gallery. He exhibited oil paintings in the West Australian Society of Arts first exhibition in 1896. The subjects were

Sea-scape near Lorne, Victoria. He was the father of architect Charles Lancelot Oldhamand Ronald G. Oldham and grandfather of John Russell Oldham.
