Teacher and amateur artist who was the third of the fourteen children of James and Elizabeth n_e Eggleston. He taught in Ballarat until he retired in 1905. He founded a School of Design at the Mechanics Institute in Ballarat and taught there until 1885. He was a painter in oils and watercolours, and he also worked with pastels and was a talented etcher. He was a founding member of the Ballarat Art Gallery. He exhibited oil paintings in the West Australian Society of Arts first exhibition in 1896. The subjects were Rock, Sea and Sky and Sea-scape near Lorne, Victoria. He was the father of architect Charles Lancelot Oldhamand Ronald G. Oldham and grandfather of John Russell Oldham.
