artist and photographic colourist, was listed as such in Sands & McDougall’s Melbourne Directory from 1863 to 1873 when he was living at 20 Wellington Street, East Collingwood, then at 140 (later 194) Gore Street, Fitzroy. The artist appears to have been James Alfred Turner, the sentimental bush-genre painter who produced a large body of work in the post 1880 period and died in 1910. J.A. Turner was colouring photographs in watercolour for Thomas Chuck in 1875.
