Jane Gillings, born in 1965, is a Sydney artist who uses discarded plastic for assemblage art. She has also worked in print making, especially lino prints, painting, drawing and installation. Gillings works at Mission Australia as an art tutor for disadvantaged youths. Jane Gillings divides her time between teaching art at a Mission Australia youth art program, and making her own artwork. Her work is diverse and encompasses printmaking, painting, illustration and sculpture. More recently she has been exploring the concept of waste and has embraced her compulsion for hoarding to create works that resurrect discarded objects. Jane's work attempts to draw attention to the amount of waste that we produce as humans. By presenting it back to her audience as something beautiful, she hopes to make people more aware of what they are throwing away, and its potential for reuse.
