Jane Parkes was a Sydney based video artist and photographer whose video work was shown in a number of important exhibitions in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Her work is strongly image based, a montage or carefully composed and photographed shots, linked with an evocative soundscape, with an intimate voice over, spoken by a female voice.


Her 1989 work Public Place Private Practice dealt very directly with heroin addiction won the SBS Broadcast Prize for the most Innovative Australian Video at the 4th Australian International Video Festival was made while she was studying at the University of Technology, Sydney. It was broadcast on Eat Carpet on SBS TV.
