sketcher and author, came to Western Australia aboard the emigrant ship Wanstead , arriving on 30 January 1830 and departing aboard the same vessel in March. She may have visited Van Diemen’s Land before returning to England through Torres Strait although the tile of her subsequent book, Two Years at Sea: Being the Narrative of a Voyage to Swan River, Van Diemen’s Land, thence, through the Torres’ Straits, to the Burman Empire (London, 1834), probably uses VDL in error for 'Australia’ – a common enough error when the latter term was in less common use. The second edition of the book (London 1837) included seven woodcuts from her sketches 'taken on the spot’, including one of the author reading in her tent in the bush at the fledgling Swan River settlement.
