Born in Dubbo NSW, Jaquanna Elliot was raised by her father and step-mother in South Australia and was unaware of her Aboriginal heritage until adulthood. After meeting her natural mother she learned that her family connections belong to the Dunghutti people of NSW.

Elliott took up painting and sculpture in 1999 and has facilitated many writing workshops at local Townsville schools and community groups. In 2004 she illustrated the Townsville based, Black Ink Press’s first publication, Crow Feathers, an Indigenous collection of poems and images, co-edited by Janelle Evans. Other books she has illustrated include; My Mob Going to the Beach and Junjardee and the Red Bank.

Elliott has had residencies with Cockatoo Designs (2001), Umbrella Studio, Townsville (2004), and at the Yalga-binbi Institute and Black Ink Press (2004). In 2007 she was a finalist with her painting; Money matters , in the 2007 Parliament of NSW Indigenous Art Prize.
