Art teacher Fimister was educated at Methodist Ladies College and graduated from Perth Technical School in 1948 with a Diploma in Art Teaching. She taught in Government high schools and became a lecturer at Graylands Teachers College when that institution was established in 1956. In 1950 she exhibited weaving with the Western Australian Women’s Society of Fine Arts and Craft. These may have been the strip weaving or scarves that were possible to make on the small table looms which were readily available at the time. An F. W. Fimister had exhibited weaving in the society’s 1947 exhibition.
