Jeffrey Makin b. 1943

Jeffrey Makin is a renowned Australian artist best known for his en plein air landscape paintings. Active from 1961, his work follows in the tradition of the Australian colonial painters. Makin’s works have been showcased across Australia and he is represented in all national, state and most regional collections. In 2013 Makin was a finalist in the John Glover Art Prize.

    Description

    The Art Gallery of New South Wales began in the 1870s as an aspect of the Academy of Art. Later it became known as the National Art Gallery of NSW. This name persisted beyond Federation in 1901. It was given its present name in 1958.
    It remains the principal collecting and exhibiting body in NSW and is governed by the Art Gallery of New South Wales Act of 1980.
