Jenny’s people are of the Gunai/Kurnai, Bidawal and Ngarigo (Monaro) peoples of North-eastern Victoria and South-eastern New South Wales. Jenny’s Gunai paternal line is one of many generations of artifact makers that include Jenny’s father Albert Mullett, a well-known and knowledgeable local Elder. Jenny’s son Ben has followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and ancestors. Also with strong ancestral links, Jenny’s maternal line is one of storytellers from Ngarigo/Monaro in New South Wales including Doris Mongta (Solomon), Jenny’s grandmother, who’s family spoke fluent Ngarigo. Jenny’s mother Rachel Mullett (Solomon) continues the tradition of story telling through her painting.

Having spent her childhood in the forests of Bidawal (east of Orbost and into New South Wales) and her adolescence in Gunai/Kurnai country (Gippsland), Jenny has lived her adult life all over Australia but currently resides in Bairnsdale.

Jenny has spent her life in the arts and favours a unique, contemporary abstract style strongly grounded in a rich Aboriginal culture. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University, has shown in over forty exhibitions from Gippsland to Japan and has works in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria as well as several other public and private collections. Her work has been referred to in key reviews and has been published in an extensive array of catalogues. Jenny’s mediums include installation work, ceramics, painting, printmaking and drawing.

Mullet is a member of the East Gippsland Arts & Heritage Alliance based in Bairnsdale, Victoria. Her installation piece, Landscape, Memory, Culutre – We have been Christianised, Institutionalised and Individualised, was included in the exhibiton “2000 Nothink!“at Linden Gallery & Arts Centre, St. Kilda, Victoria. This work is, as Mullett states in her artist’s statement that accompanied the exhibition, “Concerned with the emergence of memories; the construction of symbols that embody a culural essentialism.” Mullett has also stated on the East Gippsland Arts & Heritage Alliance website that her work “Concerns landscape, memory and Culture”. Mullett lives and works in the East Gippsland region of Eastern Victoria.

Jenny’s cultural knowledge, her commitment to the arts and the generosity of her spirit make her a much sought after teacher, workshop facilitator and arts worker. Her recent projects include the creation of ceramic installations depicting the bird myths of her lands.
