painter, illustrator and commercial artist, was born in Shanghai, China, on 19 September 1933. Originally she worked as a fashion illustrator in Sydney (mentioned Sydney Morning Herald 20 December 1995) and was an excellent commercial artist before she turned to easel painting. She says she doesn’t mention this early career since a commercial art background appears to be considered a disadvantage for a fine artist. In 1992 she won the Portia Geach Prize for portraiture by Australian women artists with her portrait of Nancy Borlase and Laurie Short, which was acquired for the National Portrait Gallery Collection and shown in First Acquisitions along with her large painting of Emily Kame Kngwarreye and her adopted daughter. Sages lives in Sydney. She had a solo show at King on Burton (opposite East Sydney Technical College) in late 1996 et al.
