Exhibited in (delayed) third annual exhibition of the [Royal] Art Society of NSW: “Miss Bowkett sends half-a-dozen exhibits. No.132 'A Passing Wind’ is well composed; it represents a little girl, with a bundle of sticks she has gathered, stopping to exchange freetings with a fisherboy, and the colouring is decidedly English. No.146 'High and Dry’ can be looked at more than once: but the portraits 260 and 261 are weak, and inharmonious in colouring. The flesh tints look dirty gainst the bluish background” ( Sydney Morning Herald , 21 March 1883, p.11).

“Bowkett, Miss Jessie. Landscape with figures, oil. Remarkable for her careful work and delicate aerial effects” (A.E. Greenwood & H.W.H. Stephen, Catalogue (Descriptive and Critical) of the Art Gallery with Sydney Art Notes , Sydney, 1883).
