Merritt was a painter with training at the Max Meldrum School, Melbourne. She was a member of the Ballarat Artists Society. She exhibited work in the Olympic Art Festival, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (1956) and the 1958 art competition by the Victorian Chamber of Manufactures for a painting by an artist resident in Australia."
