A painter and printmaker, John Brack is considered one of Australia's most significant artists, whose subject matter was resolutely urban, modern life. Brack's extensive body of work across several decades is largely defined by its caustic realism, sense of alienation and sense of humour.

Description

The first John Brack retrospective to be held in more than twenty years, this exhibition surveyed the artist’s complete oeuvre, incorporating paintings and works on paper from all of his major series and including pictures, such as 'The bar’ 1954 and 'Collins St., 5 p.m.’ 1955, regarded as some of the most iconic images of 20th century Australian art. ALSO TOURED: Art Gallery of South Australia (2 October 2009 – 26 January 2010).
