Dickenson was one of the early designers of the hang-glider. He filed for a preliminary patent for an "improved gliding apparatus" but did not proceed with registration. Working with Bill Moyes, his designs were flown from 1968. One of his hang-gliders is in the Powerhouse Museum collection. Amongst Australian awards, he was granted the Gold Air Medal from the Federation Aeronautique Internationale in 2012.
