Photographer and missionary, edited The Inlander , a magazine published by the Home Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church in Australia that cost 4/- per annum (vols 1-6, November 1913-1921, FL 919.4/206). The many articles he wrote for it were often illustrated with his own photographs, including some impressive panoramas.
Vol. 1, no.2 (March 1914) has a fold-out panorama of Darwin between pp.66-67 ('Copyright J. Flynn’) illustrating his article 'Australia’s front door’, as well as 2 photographs on a single page facing p.7: 'House as built around Darwin’ and 'A Bachelor at Home’ (both also 'copyright J. Flynn’).
Vol.1, no.3 (June 1914) has 'The Environment of Love’, a bush hut with a couple in the bush, facing p.122 (copyright J. Flynn) and 'The Silent Highway/ (One of the roads travelled by the first Bush Nurse)’ – Pictorialist gumtrees – facing p.124 ('Simply Explicable’ article on the photo on p.123) and between pp.130-131 a fold-out panorama of Pine Creek [Northern Territory], 'Our Latest Station’ according to the accompanying article.
